From the President

A warm welcome to new swimmers to our club and welcome back to all swimmers for the 2008/2009 season.

Last season our learn to swim programme continued to be very popular in the learners pool. This season we continue under the guidance of Head Coach Adrienne Pope. Congratulations to Adrienne who was a finalist in the “Watties Volunteer Coach of the Year’.

This year in the main pool we are pleased to be able to renew our contract with Aidan Withington the Swimming Southland Development Officer. Last season with Aidan’s swim programme we continued to see the increased skills and confidence of our swimmers. We saw the progression of 2 swimmers from club night swimming into competitive swimming. Our aim this season is to enhance this and see further swimmers involved in competitive swimming. We have secured a lane in the deep end of the pool. Swimmers who swam at the last Ribbon Day are swimming in the deep end, along with the competitive swimmers. If your child is interested in competitive swimming please contact Nigel Soper.

This year we were fortunate to receive a grant from ICC to purchase swimming caps for all swimmers. These caps have been distributed to all swimmers to wear on club nights. Caps have been named to assist the coaches to identify swimmers and assess skills of individual swimmers.

We have also are working on developing a club t-shirt. We will have more information and these available for sale soon.

Swim NZ are currently updating their database. All swimmers should have been issued a membership form to complete. Please check with the desk if you have not completed this yet.
